Our Tournaments

Hayfield Lakes, 21st and 22nd May our Tournament Story

weeks of behind the scenes work
it was finally here.  All the team had been looking forward to this weekend so
much, I secretly hoped they wouldn’t feel let down.  It was to be our first solo
tournament hosted at a new venue, and we were all eagre to get set up and under
way.
We arrived at the venue late morning to find Janine and her son Ryan
pitching the big tent that was to be our home for the next two nights,
affectionatley known as “The Notts Hotel”.  The weather was perfect, if a litte
on the breezy side, but this cooled the suns rays nicely for us, so it wasn’t
too much of a problem.  We made short work of our encampment and soon our mini
village was set up complete with kitchen tent and car park.

The ring
came together very quickly, and before we knew it, we had a flyball competition
waiting to happen!  All that was left was to visit the pub for refuelling along
with our friends Hazell, Jean and Brian from Tyne.  A great night was had by all
and after a few nightcaps, we retired to the Notts hotel for the
night.

We were up at the crack of dawn to lift the giant marquee abouve
the flyball lanes, and our head judge set about the task of checking our handy
work!  A steady stream of flyballers began to arrive and we were ready, ready,
READY to go!
The wind was creeping up on us and after a perfectly still
couple of hours early morning, the breeze soon turned to something worse and
more storm straps were called for to hold the marquee down.  Apart from the odd
occasion where we had to bang in the pegs, the marquee stood it’s ground against
the wind and racing carried on regardless.
At the end of a long, problem
free day we all sat back and reflected on a perfect day’s racing, and enjoyed a
well earned rest and BBQ prepared by our head chef and supacook Sarah.  An early
night was on the cards for myself as another equally busy day awaited
us.
Sunday was again bright and, this time very breezy. I felt confident
that the marquee had stood up well to the high winds of the day before, and a
storm through the night, so was not duely worried about the weather.  Again the
people started to arrive and we all busied ourselves with the task ahead, and
began the days competition.  The wind was obviously determined to leave it’s
mark though, and racing was held up many times so the jumps could be secured,
and pegs banged back in, but to no avail!  About lunch time an almighty gust of
wind ripped the marquee from it’s teathers andalmost folded it in two! In true
flyball spirit every available person grabbed the escaping gazeebo and battled
with it up the lanes and out of the ring to safer ground.  The lighting board
was strapped to the ground, and racing continued as if nothing had happened!  My
team and I are so very grateful to all those that jumped into the arena to
salvage what they could of our marquee, and enable the day’s racing to go ahead
without futher interuption.
The weekend passed by so quickly for me, and
I can’t believe that it is all over… for now!  We get to do it all again in
July, and needless to say we are all praying for no wind!  Apart from the
trouble mother nature threw at us, the weekend ran perfectly thanks to the hard
work of the Notts Supadogs gang, and I am so very proud of all of them for their
contribution to a wonderful weekend.
Thank you team, and thank you to all
those who attended, we hope to see you all again at the next one!
